Structured electronic invoicing between businesses is mandatory since January 1, 2026: what do you need to do?

Since 1 January 2026, all Belgian companies subject to VAT must exchange structured electronic invoices directly between software systems via the Peppol network.

Since that date on, you have been receiving your ENGIE invoices via the Peppol network.

Frequently asked questions

How does structured electronic invoicing work?

Toggle answer

Structured electronic invoices are sent via a decentralised network called Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online). To receive your energy bills, your accounting software establishes a secure connection with this Peppol network, to which ENGIE is also connected. Peppol can be compared to a telecommunications network. Thanks to this network, data is exchanged securely and in a structured manner between different applications.
